In the village of Windward, everyone calls him "Cal." Son of Alwyn Enoe, Callistus Enoe is the shipwright who took over his father's trade. With Cal, the sloops of Carriacou have found a new generation.
His name is written in several ways depending on the sources: Callistus, Calistus or Callistas. Alexis Andrews' Vanishing Sail page lists him under his full name, Calistus John Enoe.
On the beach, alongside his father
Around 2003, Alexis Andrews commissioned a traditional sloop from Alwyn Enoe. In a photo from that time, he is smilingly holding the model of Genesis carved by his father.

For eighteen months, Cal worked on Windward Beach building the boat. With his father and cousin Bonnie, he went to the island of Grenada to select and fell white cedar. He also drilled the holes for the bronze nuts that secured the lead keel. Discover Genesis: Genesis.
March 2005: Genesis launch
On the day of the launch, Cal presented Alexis Andrews with a live rooster. The rooster was used in the boat's christening ritual.

Due to a lack of orders, America
After Genesis, no more orders came to Windward. Alwyn's sons left for America to look for work, far from shipbuilding.
The return: Zemi then Exodus
In 2010, the three brothers, Callistus, Terry, and Christopher, returned to help their father build Zemi, a 42-foot sloop, on Windward Beach. Antiguan captain Eli Fuller recounts seeing Cal climb and rig the mast without any fear.
Alwyn Enoe is already announcing the sequel.
The boys want to build one themselves. I want them to choose one. I think this time they'll do the work. I'll just give advice.

In 2013, the sons returned to the forest with their father to find the trees and curved branches for Exodus, then hauled them to the beach. This three-year project is what Alexis Andrews filmed for the documentary Vanishing Sail. Discover Exodus: Exodus.
November 8, 2015: Free, the first boat of a new generation
Thierry de Badereau, captivated by the West Indies Regatta, commissioned a sloop. This time, it was Cal who built it.

On Sunday, November 8, 2015, the entire village of Windward pulled the hull into the sea. According to Caribbean Compass, Cal calmly directed the maneuver, then displayed a shy but proud smile. The mast was lifted onto the crane in Harvey Vale, and Cal boarded the ship with the crew for the crossing to Antigua.
This is the first boat built by Alwyn Enoe's sons, the first boat of a new generation of shipwrights. With this boat, the know-how has survived to be passed on.

Free in St Barth won the West Indies Regatta in 2016, and again in 2024. Discover the boat: Free in St Barth.
The son honored with the father
In November 2015, the Grenada Tourism Authority awarded Alwyn Enoe and his son Callistus for their contribution to shipbuilding in Carriacou.
In 2020, the Vanishing Sail page summarized his journey: Cal helped build three other Carriacou sloops and a 65-foot schooner, then he became a master carpenter himself with the launch of Free in St Barth. He also became the boat's captain.
Today: a 46-footer for school
Cal still builds Carriacou sloops. His current project is a 46-foot boat with a Guyanese greenheart keel and locally sourced timber frames. It's a training project for the Carriacou Boatbuilding School, and the sloop is then scheduled to sail to Europe to showcase Carriacou's maritime heritage.
This sloop is called Windjammer, and it belongs to Piero Zipoli. Its launch is planned for early 2027. It will then be presented at a boat show in Germany to secure new orders for the shipyard and the school. Its story is told on the Windjammer profile.
