Presentation
The West Indies Regatta Festival is an annual cultural event that takes place every year at the end of April in Gustavia, on the island of Saint-Barthélemy, in the heart of the French West Indies.
For three days, the port and docks are transformed into a meeting place where the sea, culture, and Caribbean traditions converge. The regatta, the market, and the concerts combine to create a vibrant festival inspired by the islands' maritime history.

THE STORY OF THE EVENT

The story of the West Indies Regatta festival, which aims to safeguard a local maritime heritage and promote Caribbean cultural exchange, actually began in the 1990s when Alexis Andrews, then a nautical photographer, discovered the island of Carriacou in the Grenadines and encountered a disappearing world: that of shipwrights building magnificent wooden schooners by hand, without plans or modern machines: the Carriacou sloops!

Both types of boats belong to the same Caribbean tradition, but they have evolved differently depending on the island.
