A floating work of art
Built in 2008 under the name of’Ocean Nomad, The sloop has competed in several editions of the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. In 2020, its new owner undertook a complete restoration, entrusted to Andrew Robinson of the Woodstock Boatbuilders shipyard in Antigua.
The renovation respects traditional techniques while incorporating modern improvements — electric windlass, depth sounder, navigation lights, North Sails, including an asymmetric spinnaker adorned with a mermaid. The artist Aragorn, from the British Virgin Islands — the same one who led the canoe Gli Gli until Saint-Barth in 2007 — sculpted copper mermaids on the bow and created the transom.
Navasana received the award from Best Refit at the Antigua Classics 2023 and the Concours d'Elegance in 2024. In 2025, when the survival of the Saint-Barthélemy festival was in question, it was the only Carriacou sloop to answer the call.
The name, the mermaid, and the spinnaker
Navasana - Or Paripurna Navasana — is a yoga pose that literally means "boat pose" in Sanskrit. The word comes from nava, the boat, and’asana, The posture. In this seated position, the body balanced on the buttocks forms a "V" shape reminiscent of the hull of a ship.
The boat's official logo is a mermaid in this pose. It is printed in giant letters on its spinnaker, the sail hoisted when the boat is sailing downwind.
