A workboat

Lazer belongs to the first generation of Alwyn Enoe boats, long before the racing sloops that would make his reputation. These early boats were made for work: fishing, or transporting goods between the islands.

Those early boats, Lady Madrina, Summerwind, Misty Blue and Lazer were workhorses, built to fish or run cargo.

One of the largest boats in Alwyn Enoe

At 58 feet, Lazer is significantly larger than Genesis, Exodus, or Free in St. Barth, all of which measure 42 feet. Misty Blue is the same length. Only three of Alwyn Enoe's boats are longer: the schooner Jambalaya at 73 feet, Phiabiana Corion at 76 feet, and the longest of them all: Agatha D, of 80 feet.

Lazer is among the twelve boats engraved on the plaque of the first Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Alwyn Enoe in 2019 by the committee of the Carriacou Regatta Festival.

Forty years later, still working

The boat is still sailing. Its white hull has a blue stripe under a red rub rail, and the name MV Laser is painted on the bow. On deck, a large wheelhouse stands aft of the mast, which still carries three sails: a jib, a staysail, and a mainsail.

The boat is now equipped with a 225 horsepower John Deere diesel engine, which propels it at 8 or 10 knots. On board, four berths, a galley and a toilet allow for trips of several days.

September 2026: For sale by its owner

In September 2026, the owner put the boat up for sale directly, without an intermediary, and the price was provided upon request. The advertisement described Lazer as being in good condition and ready to work, having been regularly maintained. The boat could be used for sea excursions with clients, fishing, diving, or inter-island transport.

Built to work. Ready to sail.

2015: In Saint-Barth, the holds were full of coconuts

In 2015, Laser crossed from Carriacou to Saint-Barthélemy for the West Indies Regatta, loaded with coconuts for the Gustavia wharf market. It is not a racing sailboat but a motorized workboat, come for trade, as in the old days.

At the awards ceremony on the quayside, each boat receives a prize, and Laser too.

It seemed like every boat received a prize, including the motorized cargo vessel Laser, which arrived from Carriacou loaded with coconuts.
