A training boat
After a refit carried out in Carriacou, its owners founded the West Indies Sail Heritage Foundation in 2019, based in Antigua, with the mission of "giving back to the community." The boat belongs to the foundation, which operates and maintains it.
It welcomes young people from the age of twelve for sailing lessons that emphasize teamwork, independence, and discipline, with the aim of inspiring maritime vocations among young Antiguans. Its bright orange deck was chosen for safety reasons, in keeping with its heritage as a working boat, and its rigging remains intentionally traditional, without modern amenities.
New Moon competed in the 2024 Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. The foundation also conducts cultural exchange programs, notably with the Swedish three-masted ship. Gunilla.
