It takes a whole village to build a boat
Spirit of St. Maarten isn't a Grenadines boat, but it stems from the same idea. It was built entirely by hand in a village on Brazil's central coast where shipbuilding is a heritage passed down through generations. They say there, "It takes a whole village to make a boat," because the entire village works together on these projects, each one unique.
Its buyers recount finding it on the riverbed where it had been built, just two months after its completion. The wood is a species native to the coastal forests of Brazil; each tree is used entirely and replaced with a new sapling.
Today it serves as the flagship for the charitable projects of a local foundation, in support of children, vulnerable young people and disaster relief.
