A keel and ribs on the beach
The earliest record of Sea Fortress is a photograph. It shows the keel and frames of the boat, under construction in Carriacou. It illustrates the memoirs of J. Linton Rigg, the founder of the Carriacou Regatta, published on the blog Carriacou 1968.

The legend gives neither the name of the carpenter nor the date.
L'Esterre, the other village of carpenters
The following is based on a memory recounted in 2026. It is the memory of a man from the island, which is not necessarily verified by other sources.
When we talk about shipbuilding in Carriacou, we first think of the village of Windward. But other communities on the island also built boats, including L'Esterre.
In September 2026, the Explore Carriacou and Petite Martinique page published an interview with Henry Stiell, a former school principal who grew up in L'Esterre. He remembers the boats built in his village: Starlight, Trader's Choice and Sea Fortress, as well as several smaller ones.
These boats were used to transport goods between Carriacou, Grenada and the other islands in the region.
Henry Stiell's father, a shipwright
Henry Stiell has a personal connection to this story. His father, "Boyie" Stiell, was a shipwright: he built Starlight and Trader's Choice. According to his son's recollections, he may also have worked on Sea Fortress. Learn more about this shipwright: Boyie Stiell.
What remains to be found
The year of construction, the name of the chief shipwright, the dimensions, the owners, and the fate of the boat remain unknown. Any information, photographs, or memorabilia that could complete this record would be greatly appreciated.
