The "P" following the first name is said to refer to the initial of the Patrice family, a family of shipwrights and sailors from the village of Windward, on Carriacou Island.

According to some sources, her name is also spelled Rosalina.

Discover the family of its manufacturer: The Patrice family.

Windward's smallest sloop

In July 2005, the British magazine Classic Boat published a report by journalist Dan Houston on Carriacou sloops. He recounts a fishing trip described by Alexis Andrews, aboard Rosalina. Alexis Andrews is the owner of Genesis.

At 28 feet, Rosalina was then the smallest sailboat in Windward's fleet. Three boats set off together for Sail Rock, an isolated rock about fifteen miles east of the Tobago Cays.

Once ashore, the crew reefed the mainsail, backed the jib, and secured the tiller. The boat remained at a standstill for hours. The men cut up a small local fish for bait and fished with bottom lines weighted with pieces of iron: butterfish, groupers, and snappers. On the return trip, the catch was given to a middleman, also on a Windward boat, but equipped with a diesel engine. He put the fish on ice and went to sell it in Martinique, where he got the best price. Each of the four men kept a fish for his dinner.

We hove to for hours, pulling in butterfish, grouper, hind and snapper. The four of us got back smelling of bait, and we had kept a fish each for supper.

Alexis Andrews, quoted by Dan Houston, Classic Boat, July 2005

2007: A victory at the Carriacou Regatta?

At the 2007 Carriacou Regatta Festival, in the small decked sloop class, first place went to a boat named Rosalina, skippered by Petroc Patrice. The Caribbean Compass report does not specify the boat's length or builder.

Rosalina is another spelling of the name Rosealyna P.

What remains to be found

The year of construction, home port, successive owners, and current condition of the boat remain unknown. Any information, photographs, or memorabilia that could complete this record would be greatly appreciated.

Sources

<ul
