The sloop ended up beached in Windward, exposed to the elements, destined for a slow demise.

January 2023: Three children from Windward save the boat

In January 2023, three young men from Carriacoué bought American Eagle: Floyd Davidson, Richard McQuilkin and Hubert McLawrence. For them, it's not just an investment, it's a love affair with their village.

We grew up in Windward in the 1990s, when Windward was the capital of the economy, sailing, and shipbuilding—a proud era. At every regatta, we worked on the boats, dreaming of being there one day. Buying American Eagle was our destiny; it was only a matter of time.

The owners of Windward Pride, as quoted by Caribbean Compass, October 2023

July 2023: Windward's pride

The new owners are investing heavily in the restoration and improvements. One month before the 2023 Carriacou Regatta, the sloop is relaunched in Windward under its new name: Windward Pride.

The boat has been stripped down to the bare minimum. No more deckhouse, no more cabins, no more toilets: everything that doesn't contribute to speed has been removed. As is customary in Carriacou, the launch is accompanied by plenty of white rum and boasting, with the owners promising a sound thrashing to all their competitors in the circumnavigation of the island.

Allyu watch out, we're coming!!

The owners of Windward Pride, in Carriacou Creole

Final preparations aboard Windward Pride before the Carriacou Regatta 2023. Windward Pride lived up to expectations: the sloop quickly pulled away from the fleet, with Glacier as its only real rival.

Glacier remained slightly ahead all along the leeward coast. Once past the southern reefs and the northern tack was taken, Windward Pride moved ahead and increased the gap, eventually winning by eleven minutes.

We could have won by a bigger margin, but we were so far ahead that we settled in and started celebrating!

The crew of the Windward Pride, quoted by Caribbean Compass

Glacier took its revenge the following two days: helmed by Kenrick Patrice, the sloop won all three races around the buoys, and Windward Pride finished second each time. Floyd Davidson and Richard McQuilkin created a small regatta in the United States, modeled after the one in Carriacou, with three identical 15-foot boats, painted in the colors and with the names of their sloops.

The first year there were six of us; the second, about twenty-five; and this year, around fifty, ninety-five percent of whom come from Windward! It was here that Alwyn Enoe's sloops were built, and it is here that a plot of land was designated in 2025 to house Grenada's future shipbuilding school.

Carriacou Regatta 2026

On July 31, 2026, Windward Pride was forced to retire from the Carriacou Regatta Festival sloop race after an accident. The crew worked through the night to repair the boat in time for the island circumnavigation the following day.

On August 2, 2026, according to unofficial results published that same day, Windward Pride won the first sloop race of the third day, ahead of Margeta, Savvy, Free in St Barth and Glacier.

Contact

No website, page, or public address is known for this boat.
